LATE FOR WORK *NEW*

"This is a self portrait of the me I was 20 years ago. I lived to feel that glorious slide, whether it was surfing, skating or snowboarding.  Because my passion was strong, I was often late for work, much to the dismay of various bosses over the years.  When I was out there on the glassy water waiting for one last wave to take to shore, time would slip away from me and I’d lose all sense of responsibility.   Eventually, I opened my own business and became my own boss.  This lead to many internal conflicts while surfing.  Sometimes I want to stay longer but I don’t want to disappoint my boss.  It’s a good thing that my boss is also very undertstanding about these things!   I created this painting to remind myself of those early days of freedom from responsibility, floating on the ocean, waiting for real life to begin."

仕事に遅れる これは、20年前の私自身を描いた自画像です。当時の私は、サーフィンであれ、スケートボードであれ、あるいはスノーボードであれ、あの「滑走する」という至福の感覚を味わうためだけに生きていました。その情熱があまりに強かったため、私は仕事によく遅刻をしてしまい、長年にわたり、歴代の上司たちを大いに困らせてきました。鏡のように滑らかな水面に浮かび、岸へと運んでくれる「最後の一本」の波を待っていると、いつの間にか時間は過ぎ去り、仕事に対する責任感などすっかり頭から抜け落ちてしまうのでした。 やがて私は独立し、自分自身の「上司」となりました。しかし、そのことがサーフィン中の私に、新たな葛藤をもたらすことになりました。もっと海に残っていたいという気持ちと、上司（つまり自分自身）をがっかりさせたくないという気持ちとの間で揺れ動くのです。幸いなことに、私の上司はそうした事情に対して、非常に理解のある人物なのですが！ 私がこの絵を描いたのは、責任から解き放たれ、海に身を委ねながら、これから始まる「本当の人生」を待ち望んでいた――そんな若き日の自由な感覚を、自分自身に思い出させるためなのです。

PRINTING

This open edition digital print is created on heavyweight (100pt) art paper, using professional fade-resistant laser technology. The fine art laser print creates beautiful, rich colors that are unmatched by pigment based printing systems. It also holds up against fading and moisture damage in a way that has previously not been possible with fine art printing. In person, these prints have beautiful, rich, vibrant colors that will be enjoyed for years.

MATTING

This 7” x 9” print is matted in white (with bright white core), which will stay white for years to come because it is made with archival quality papers. The outside dimension (what size frame it will fit) is a standard 11” x 14”. The print is attached lightly to the matt so if you decide to switch matts in the future, you can transfer the print.

PACKING

All of our matted prints are wrapped in luxuriously thick clear cello envelope that protects the print against dust, scratches or marks during shipping. It also creates a clean presentation, perfect for gift giving. All packages sent by mail are packaged in double thick cardboard on both sides of the print, with a 2” minimum “crush zone”. So far, no print has ever arrived damaged when packaged this way.
